What To Wear For Spring Shoots
DO'S & DONT'S
I love spring! It's my favorite time of the year to photograph families. The weather is perfect, the lighting is marvelous, the grass is green, and the skies are jet blue. What more can you ask for?
Photo shoots are in full bloom and I wanted to share some wardrobe dos and don'ts for your spring photo shoot. These suggestions will capture timeless and memorable images for you and your family. White and soft-hued colors are significant in springtime and are a great place to start establishing your color scheme.
DO PREPARE
Preparing your clothes the night before can create a stress-free photo shoot. Keep in mind that everyone's outfits should be similar in style, whether informal or formal. Remember, you will be hanging your beautiful portraits as wall art, so don't forget to look at your home decor. When preparing your outfits, focus on coordinating colors, but NOT matching, and limit patterns to avoid taking attention away from the main subject/s.
DO ACCESSORIZE
Give your images a quick "pop" with the proper accessories. I am a fan of eye-catching statement necklaces for women and posh headpieces for girls. Coordinating a belt with the family's wardrobe coloration is great too.
DO TEXTURE
Texture your outfit with layers. By layering, your outfits instantly transform to a totaly fresh look. This gives your look dimension. For example: a sun dress can be layered with a cardigan, add a blazer over a button down, use airy scarfs over your dress, bring color in a belt, or include leggings under a skirt.
DO COLOR
An all white or all black outfit can subdue your photograph. If you want to wear white, pep it up with color, such as mint green in your accessories or wear different shades of the same color. Choose 2-3 colors with similar and softer or neutral tones.
DON'T
- Visit the barber the day before your photo shoot, instead visit the salon a week or so before to allow hair to grow and look natural
- Wear anything with logos, graphics, characters, labels, etc.
- Have everyone wear the same color – matching is boring and passé. Think coordinate!
- Wear white socks and avoid running shoes unless they are fashion forward and simple like Converse or Addidas (love superstars).
Here are some of my favorite color combinations:
