Tips When Prepping For A Holiday Shoot
IT'S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE...PHOTO SHOOTS
I am shocked that it is that time of year to book photo shoots. Don't get me wrong. I love summer but there is this feeling I get when fall and winter are near. I think parties, I hear the sound of pouring champs into champagne glasses and the clinking of two EMPTY crystal wine glasses, I smell a bonfire in the air and a special holiday food cooking, I taste hot cocoa and delicious s'mores, and most importantly I feel complete as I spend quality time with my fam. So peeps you know the drill... schedule your next family photo shoot before it is too late and check out some tips when getting reading for your shoot.
A TICKIN' AND A TOCKIN'
Sometimes planning a shoot can be stressful BUT that's why I am here. I will help you along the way. You may be thinking that it is premature to begin scheduling your shoot for Sept-Oct, but it's actually the ideal time.
A couple things to ponder when scheduling your shoot. To start off, it takes AF a couple of weeks to edit and have your images available for viewing. Once you have your images, we then have to create the card, order the final design, and again wait to receive them to then mail them out to your people. In other words, it's never too early to begin scheduling your shoot.
WEAR IT WELL
Your outfit is key and should definetely reflect your family. When in doubt, COORDINATE! Matching is a thing of the past. You can choose a color palette and then work from there. Stick to neutrals with one or two accent colors. Very important, don't forget the accessories, belt, necklace, ribbons, or shoes. When you book your shoot, we will meet at a coffee shop and we can discuss all your options. I'd love to help. My blog displays color pallets samples that can help you so make sure you check it out.
SUNSHINE ON MY MIND
We live in the Sunshine State so I highly recommend photographing outdoors and somewhere that will highlight your family and bring out your clan's personalities. Since we don't have snow, the beach can be a great location. We also don't have colored leaves for fall, so we could always find the closest thing, like a woodsy area. Another option would be to take the photos at your house. The kids can run around, walk around the neighborhood or even bake cookies but only if you share. A cozy couch or decorating the tree is sweet too. The possibilities are endless.
ACT NATURAL
Easier said than done, right? It's not every day you have someone watching your every move through a lens unless you are a Kardashian. It can be uncomfortable and unnatural. But trust me when I say, there is nothing better than capturing shots of families laughing and kidding around, it just looks so raw. So leave the painted-on smile and bring on your charm. I dare you! I triple dong dare you.
"Tossing your child up in the air, a little smooch to the wife, share a secret in your love one's ear, snuggle, or playing helps break the spell of the painted-on smile "
